Can I arrange my own tour of PNG?

PNG has often been referred to as the Land of the Unknown / Unexpected.  "Doing it on your own" may not be a wise option especially for first time travellers.  Even well organised tours can be thrown into complete disarray when flights are cancelled or bookings lost.  Even experienced PNG travellers come across problems.
