Four athletes took part in the 2004 Olympics in their respective sports.
Ryan Pini managed to come 18th in the 100-metre butterfly event and Dika Toua is now considered number one in her class in the Commonwealth. Dika finished a credible 6th in the World in her event - the 53 Kilogram division of weightlifting.
PNG's female 100-metre sprint specialist, Mae Koime, set a new PNG 100 metre record in her event. She had hoped to break the 12 second barrier but still finished agonisingly close at 12 seconds flat a 0.12 second improvement on her previous PNG record.
Mowen Boino, PNG's Olympic 400 metre hurdler has set a new PNG record of 50.97 seconds whilst competing in the Olympic games. He bettered his previous Olympic best set at the 2000 games in Sydney, Australia. This has meant that PNG's four athletes have all broken national records making them the most successful team to compete at the Olympics.
