Does PNG have a sign language?

The Papua New Guinean government decided in May 2015 to recognize Papua New Guinean Sign Language (PNG SL) as one of the country’s official languages.   PNG SL is indigenous but not local; it is used nationwide.

The Deaf population is estimated to be about 30,000 people, making it one of the country’s biggest language groups.
