If I get married in PNG is it recognised in my country?

If you and your spouse-to-be are interested in tying the knot in PNG, you'll be happy to know that it's not too tough a task.  As long as your marriage is carried out by a legally recognised person in PNG your country will also honour it.  Check before leaving though that this is indeed the case.

If you only have a short time in PNG then you may not have enough time to prepare everything unless someone in PNG can help you such as the management of a resort or hotel.

You will need the same form of documentation as you do in your own country such as birth certificates etc so bring all that along with you.

Perhaps contact the PNG tourism board or a Church to find out exactly what sort of paperwork you must fill out beforehand, how long a waiting period there is after filing a notice of intended marriage, and what government official has "power invested in him/her."  Once you get back to your own country take the original marriage certificate to your registry office and have it officialy filed.
