Prevention of being bitten by an infected mosquito is important but not perfect.  Added protection from malaria is possible by taking anti-malarial drugs.  Taking drugs before becoming sick, to prevent disease from developing, is called prophylaxis.  A prophylactic drug is supposed to prevent or suppress the disease even if bitten by an infected mosquito.
