Are there any elephants in PNG?

There have been a couple of circuses that have visited PNG with elephants but elephants are not native to PNG.

 

I am not sure of the dates.  One may have visited n the 1960's and Circus Bruno may have been in the 1980's.

 

The one that visted in the 1960's had the circus tent out on Wards Road when in Port Moresby.
