Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was aboard a Mitsubishi G4M ‘Betty’ when it crashed near Kokopo village of the Makis Constituency in the Buin District of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

 

Admiral Yamamoto was one of the masterminds of the Pearl Harbor attack. His plane was shot down on the 18th of  April, 1943 by US forces.  The plane crashed in South Bougainville.
