What is the East Sepik Council of Women (ESCOW)?

The East Sepik Council of Women is an autonomous grass roots Women's development organisation estabilished in 1975 and has more than 23,000 individuals registered. The village group members reaching them through their active women's group and especially active member who are trained to set up programs which support the community in general and the empowerment of women in particular.

 

ESCOW is a provincial organisation and operates a provincial base, serving 7 District Council of Women (Wewak,Angoram,Kanauki,Maprik,Wosera Gawi,Ambunti and Drekikir). The 7 district council of women make up the executive of ESCOW.

 

Women empowerment is one of ESCOW's active activities which help to educate women and eliminate all forms of discrimination against omen and children in the 7 districts. This program also helps to reduce the risk of Family and Sexual violence against women and children throughout the 7 districts.
